The Body Shop Eye Shimmer

Hello my lovelies!

These are seven special eyeshadows from the Body Shop called "Eye Shimmer(s)". Well, there's a good reason for their ambitious name!

The Eye Shimmers in the pan. Looking boring...

The Eye Shimmers, swatched. Still- very, very boring...

Would you look at that? They're completely transformed when applied on top of black eyeliner. Who would have thought...

- - - Pros - - -

- Well, they look gorgeous! It's an interesting and different product, a nice little addition to your make-up bag.

- They are multi-purpose; they can be used as is, all over the lid or as inner corner/tearduct highlighters, on top of black eyeliner or a darker eyeshadow, on top of a co-ordinating eye pencil...

- - - Cons - - -

- They are a bit chalky. As you might probably tell from the photo with the eyeshadow pans, their surface isn't so smooth!

- Some shades are poorly pigmented and need a lot of effort to show up, particularly the pink and the copperish colour.

- They all have a funny smell...

Overall, I like the concept of these eyeshadows; in my opinion, they look their best on top of a dark eyeshadow or an eye pencil of the same colour-family applied on the lower lashline. The thing is that I don't reach for them so often due to this special and time-consuming application, you can't just slap them on your lids and be good to go! If I was to recommend one shade of the bunch I would suggest the green one, it may not be obvious from the above pics but I can assure you that it's the prettiest of them all ;)

So what do you think? Would you be interested in such a product or pass it by?

Happy blogging and reading and commenting to everyone!

  1. The green one you recommended above... Is it "08 Emerald"? I'm so gonna get it! It rocks!

I'm very interested in this product cause I love black base in the eyes and you can be so creative with this! Great solution!

    Cheerios!

  2. I have the #2 of this line, I think it's the one that turns out green? I like to use it with a narrow brush on top of my eye pencil to make it look less harsh.
Hey, you mention they smell funny... I haven't noticed this, but I wanted to ask you if you have even come across other make-up products that smell weird. I have the Korres Mango Butter lipstick in fuchsia and it smells like it's gone off! Have you ever, well, smelled it?

  3. They seem nice over the black eyeliner but I don't think I would go out and get them. Why bother when there are other shimmery eyeshadows out there that are very pigmented and show up without using a base?!

  4. @This Is Me, yes! The green shade is #08-Emerald. I'm sure you're gonna love it!!!

@lopi, oh mine smell awful, all of them! They smelled the same when they were brand new, it's not that they've gone off :( I still haven't explored the Korres make-up line, however what you said about the "smell" of the Mango butter lipstick doesn't surprise me. I'll check it out and I'll come back!

@Pasiphae, I know! Their application is a bit tricky but I still love them because of their uniqueness. That, or maybe there does exist an eyeshadow that you swipe it on and looks uber intense and I haven't come across it yet ;)

  5. I have bought in the past eye shadows, that weren't so pigmented, and I can tell you that they are a pain in the ass. You can't make up so you end up giving them away or putting them at the back of your drawer. I am very satisfied with the quality of Art Deco shadows, cheap still but very pigmented

  6. I looove Art Deco eyeshadows, too! So cute in their tiny pans, I'm hoping I get the big-big empty eyeshadow palette so I can fit them all in ;)
