Mac Paintpot in Painterly

I've had this product for the past 6 months and I can wholeheartedly say that I love it to bits.

So much so that it might just make it to my HGs list!

Painterly is the most popular shade among all Paintpots by Mac, so I won't go into much detail describing its colour; we're dealing with a pink-toned creamy eyeshadow primer. And that's that.

Is it effective at keeping the eye makeup crease-free?
Definitely, 100% yes! Although to be honest, in occasions I keep my makeup on for more than 5-6 hours, I can still see a miiinor creasing- but that's so little that I really don't mind.

If you want to use Painterly Paintpot at its full potential, there are a couple of things you should take into consideration:

* Before application, you have to make sure that your eyelids are clean- traces of last night's eye makeup, leftovers from greasy eye makeup removers and skin oiliness in general, all have to be wiped away before applying Painterly. It's a simple rule but makes all the difference to prevent eyeshadow from creasing!

* The way I found best to apply it is this: rub a finger into the product, pat (not drag) on the lid and lightly blend with a clean finger. This way you won't get too much product which can then lead to creasing.

* Make sure that you screw the cap ever so tightly after usage and by no means should you leave the product with the cap off, otherwise it will dry out fast... But as I said in the beginning, I've had my Painterly for 6 months and the texture hasn't altered a bit, although you can see that the product has "shrinked" inside the pot.

Compared with my former beloved Art Deco eyeshadow base, as much as I love the affordability of the Art Deco primer, Painterly has to be the winner. The Art Deco primer offers no coverage (boo!!!) and has that sparkle that can show through a matte eyeshadow look, messing it up completely. And it also dries in the pot much quicker than Painterly.

So, have you tried Painterly or other Paintpots by Mac?
Which is your favourite eyeshadow primer- ever?

  1. I have been reading tons of stuff about this product and I have almost caved a number of times while in the MAC store. I think I will go through at least 1 of my primers before buying this(just so I can justify it :P).
    Thanks for the review darling!!!!

  2. i own bare study by mac. i use it as all over the lid colour too, on its own. i don't usually use it as a primer but as a primer + base (eyeshadow)colour with a darker eyeshadow on the outer v or in the crease.
    however, it has started drying.

radiant eyeshadow base is by far my beloved one.

  3. @Athina, haha so I'm not the only one trying to finish up a product before committing to the next one! xx

@evi, oh I'd love to try out the Radiant eyeshadow primer, although I'm afraid I won't appreciate the fact that it goes clear on the lids :( I need that extra coverage that Painterly provides! xx

@Raech @ ❤ilvoeshopping❤, I want to get Soft Ochre too! Something tells me it will be more suitableon my complexion ;) xx

  8. I love painterly because it provides a clean and fresh color base for the eyeshadows. It is a fact that patting instead of dragging is the best way to apply and I usually use my finger or a flat top round brush. It's my first painpot, I was also hopping to get my hands on Let's Skate, but, there's nowhere to be found!

@bee., haha I know Painterly is overhyped but it's one of those few cases that it's actually worth it! xx

  17. I have not tried any paintpots...or any eyeshadow primers in general that is... For some reason the eyeshadows stay on for quite some time after my makeup is done. I do use concealer though on my lids, and that's why they stay...

@Ria, oh you lucky gal, for me eyeshadow primer is a nececcity- even if I use concealer instead, all eyeshadow is bound to settle into the crease :( xx

  22. @Miss Starshiny, ah you have to try it someday! Won't fail you a bit ;)

@mwan, thx lovely, glad you liked it!

  24. I have a lovehate relationship with painterly! My eyelids are too oily so I still have to use the arte deco primer under the paint pot.I use the Mac 239 to apply it.Afer the p.p. dried out, I put it in the microwave (Temptalia) for seconds ,stirred it with a tootpick and tata it was creamy again!Maybe I buy soft ochre with the 30% off

@andreana, oh that's baaad! To have 2 extra steps in your eye makeup :( Wow I didn't know about this little trick, thx for sharing girlie!!! xx

  26. I have Soft Orche, but I guess it's just the same as painterly only this one is more pink-toned whereas painterly is more yellowy :) It's dried out though so, as mac paintpots are the best e/s primers i may as well get painterly to give it a try :) xx

    ReplyDelete
  27. Exactly, and if you apply colourful eyeshadows on top, who's gonna tell the difference between the two? I'll def get Soft Ochre once Painterly dries out ;)
