So I've succumbed to the ever-so-growing Chanel Bronze Universel craze,
and I'm over the moon about it!
These are my first thoughts on the product:
* First off, let me protest about its humungous packaging! Despite being uber stylish and minimalist-chic, it can take too much space when travelling! I understand that the Chanel woman doesn't need to save up room on her travel makeup bag- she has her man to carry her numerous luggage, ha ha! Still, it would be so nice if there was a mini version of Bronze Universel...
* Its renowned smell: it's a subtle grown-up version of peach, not the sickly sweet peachiness you usually come across in most teenage-targeted fragrances of today! I can already see myself getting addicted to it... I'm sniffing the tub while I'm typing this and ahhh... it smells just divine!
* This stuff is packed with silicones- and I'm not accounting that as a con, I think products containing silicones are a pleasure to use, as they glide on the skin so beautifully! This could be one of the reasons why Bronze Universel is so popular...
* It's mentioned on makeupalley that it also provides some kind of coverage, which I find quite interesting ;)
* I've also been reading that it's a great "value for money" product, as you get 30 gr for a reasonable price-per-gr ratio. Well, that must be true only if you use piles of bronzer every single day! I wonder if it goes bad; the tub writes 18M (period after opening), so am I going to expect it going off after 1,5 year?
* For your reference girls, the greek stores won't offer the most common 25% sale on Chanel products! I got mine for around 45E from a very sweet and polite sales assistant (now that's odd! for a Chanel lady, ha ha) at my local Hondos Center. Although she didn't give me any Chanel samples (booooo!!!) and I was too shy to ask for a couple of Vitalumiere Aqua sachets...
And now that my "don't touch it!" phase has finally receded,
I can start using it! lol
I'd love to read your recommendations on the best brush to use with
Bronze Universel-
I know the Mac 109 is a popular choice but it allegedly sheds like crazy, and any hair stuck in the product would make me cringe!
So, what are your thoughts on high-end makeup?
Do you feel like investing in one expensive product is better than owning
lots of cheaper alternatives?
I haven't yet made up my mind about that matter...

I cannot wait to get that product! But first i need CD Amber diamond...IMO the best brush for this would be the mac 109, that's what im going to get when i ll buy the chanel. I asked in various counters a sample of the vitalumiere foundation and they always told me they do not have samples...
ReplyDeleteI've never tried chanel makeup but reallyyyy want vitalumier (sp?)
ReplyDeletexx
@EllysMakeupbag, oh I'm lusting over Amber Diamond! About the 109 brush, my only gripe is the shedding... What, no samples of Chanel foundations? That's so lame!
ReplyDelete@Eloise, I want to try Vitalumiere too! Everyone is raving about it ;)
xx
Great pre-review!I bet it looks amazing on skin.I didn't want to buy any mac LEs anymore, but...I always wanted to surf, so hibiskus lipstick will be mine.So do you have to buy a new brush for the bronzer?
ReplyDeleteThe situation here in Greece with samples is really pissing me off!My bathroom is full of eyecreams and other stuff, that didn't suit my skin.
Oh the Surf baby collection doesn't appeal to me at all- Hibiscus lipstick looks great though... I have an old duo-fibre brush from Art Deco which I am going to try with the Chanel Bronzer, but I don't think it will be sufficient on picking up product :(
ReplyDeleteAnd don't get me started on the skincare samples- I've stopped using all those magazine freebies as they made my skin break out every single time!
xx
ReplyDelete:)
Hi sweety!!everybody raves about this bronzer!!I'm sure you are goin gto enjoy it so much!I think it lasts a very long time so its definitely a worth money product!
ReplyDeleteIs this header of your blog yours?just aking or via google cs I juist found the same in another blog and I was wondering!!

OMG! You got it ha! Everyone raves about this cannot wait for full review! It' seems adorable honey and as I have read it last for long time! Contouring would be great with this product and I think a small Kabuki brush would do the job! (I still refuse to pass by Chanel counters let's see for how long!)
ReplyDelete@Blushingloves Irene Greece, it was a UK blogger who made a couple of free banners to share, so I got mine from her. Thanks for checking that out, sweetie!
xx
@Raech ❤ilvoeshopping❤, well it has grown into a cult favourite among the blogging community! Personally, I couldn't resist at this Chanel charm!
@Demi, oh yes, I got it!!! Ah sometimes it's so hard to refrain from bloggers' sweethearts like Chanel... You hold on, girl!
xx
ReplyDeleteI love the smell too - I often catch myself going in for a sniff when I'm applying my make up! & I wish it came in a smaller pot too, I love the dinky testers that they have at some Chanel counters!
xx
@25FLONDON, ha ha I know what you mean, the smell is so addicting! Yeah those little testers at the Chanel counters have the perfect size, if only they were on sale :(
Ow, it seems lovely!!
ReplyDeleteAs for your question, i personally tend to spend a bit more on very specific products that i find make a big difference in comparison to the drugstore ones, or something that is very unique and i can't find on the drugstore. In MY opinon many of the high end products may smell better or apply smoother , but the end result is not THAT different.I like my Korres bronzer much better than my Dior one(which i spent ridiculous money on....yeah yeah,i fell for the packaging, shoot me! :p) and i find some artdeco or body shop eyeshadows more pigmented than some mac ones.....go figure! Generally my make up "collection" is very mixed. A healthy thing to do if you ask me :):):)
Congrats ! you should tell us how it looks on your skin too. Is it more-orange ? Because from the pics i've seen from others it appears to be slightly on the orange side. Also, silicons ? They are supposed to make it more spreadable (like butter) ..i can't find the ingredients online. In general, silicones such Cyclomethicones and Dimethicones (D4 and D5) appear to be toxic when used constantly and in big percentages in personal care products.
ReplyDeleteI never tried any chanel makeup but only looking at the package the bronzer looks very elegante.
ReplyDelete@dimitra, I feel you, girl! 100% agree, some high-end products cannot be duped by drugstore makeup, that's mainly the reason why I got Bronze Universel in the first place! Oh and you're so right about the eyeshadows, I've see Contrast at the Mac counters and it's so poorly pigmented, nothing like the Art Deco shades! Yeah, I like to think of my makeup collection as the equivalent of Carrie Bradshaw's closet: combining a 200$ pair of heels with a 10$ summer dress! lol
ReplyDeletexx
@Anastasia, oh thanks so much for the info, I wasn't aware that silicones could be actually harmful in case of a big exposure! This product contains silicone, dimethicone and 2-3 other ingredients of silicone nature, so that was good to know ;)
@Beautyshades, elegant, indeed! It has brought me a new love for the "mature lady packaging" like those from Estee Lauder and Lancome...
ok i've been literally wanting to get this for AAGES. i was always a bit put off by the price but anyway i thought it was at around 60E? now that i know it's "only" 45 i am so getting it this summer! xx
ReplyDeleteYeah I was expecting it to cost something like 60E too! Now we can spend the rest 15E on a nice Mac lipstick, like Impassioned!!! lol
ReplyDeletexx
It's so pretty *_* I wouldn't want to touch it, ever :D I'm really craving this bronzer, but I don't have the money to spare right now. Hopefully I can get it on holiday, I'm actually going to Greece! :)
ReplyDeletex
Thanks for the review(and for quoting the price...I was wondering how much it might cost).I bet you'll have a great time playing around with it! me'geia...:)
ReplyDeleteI have my fair share of high end make-up yet I still feeli like I need this product(even though I really don't). However I will hold my horses until I leave for England this summer. The only reason is that I bet I will, at least, get some samples if I purchase it from a store in London. And even if I don't I will tell myself that I am rewarding myself for working hard with a very expensive bronzer :P
I've gone back and forth between cheap and expensive makeup and I always go back to Clinique. I do think there is a ceiling price though brands like Chantecaille are just stupid expensive.
ReplyDeleteI smell it whenever I pass by a Chanel counter lol, I wonder what's in this thing that all of us are so attracted to it! I can't wait to finally get this beauty, soon hopefully! I think some products are worth to buy high end such as blush, NARS blushes in particular. Big selection, amazing pigmentation, good lasting power what else can one ask for? I've almost always had issues with drugstore blushes so I just save my money and invest in a higher end blush :)
ReplyDelete@Summer, oooh that's great! I hope you enjoy your time in Greece ;)
ReplyDelete@Athina, ha ha I tell myself exactly the same! Somehow it motivated me to study harder for Uni, lol
xx
@Skin Scrubs, my my, I just googled Chantecaille- the prices are ridiculous! Who buys these products?!?
@Ebru, ah I know what you mean about drugsgore blushes, it's rare for an affordable company to come out with a range of blushes worth buying! I'll venture into Nars blushes too, some day...
xx
Oh, congrats on that highly coveted purchase girl!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear how you get on with it, if anything I'll live vicariously through you (since the amount is pretty high for sth I fear wouldn't suit me shade-wise)! Hmm, perhaps Chanel needs to make more shades of this to cater to everyone's needs..? Come on Chanel, make it happen, hahaha!
xx
Well, the shade looks pretty light to me- so I'd say it must be suitable for fair skin! Now I must get a nice stiff brush to apply it with. I'll definitely report back a full review!
