Exploring Greek brands: Seventeen Silky blusher

Hey dolls!

This is part 2 of my series on Greek high-street make-up products-
to see my first post, click here

So I've had this blush by Seventeen for quite some time now;
and I've been meaning to write a proper and honest review the past
couple of months, but somehow I kept procrastinating...

The reason for this slackness?
There was something about this blush that baffled me and thus couldn't make up my mind if I really liked it or not.

Well, I've finally come across what was keeping me wondering all this time, so now I can speak my mind.

I'll go straight to the point of this review:

I don't like this blush.
It's just plain average and for the price (around 12E),
I should and would expect more from it.

So what's all the fuss about this product?

The shade I got is #57-warm brick.
It's an interesting shade of a dirty peach with golden sheen
(which is ever-so-common in the Seventeen blushes).
Actually, I could argue that this colour is rather "démodé", but let's just pretend and count this a positive, shall we?

    a heavy, heavy swatch...

Now, here's where the fun ends!

The main issue I'm experiencing with this blush is that the formula is "dated": at first, I thought it wasn't pigmented enough, then I realised it's the hard-pressed formulation that requires an old-fashioned and stiff animal hair brush to get a decent pigmentation going on. Modern technology
cruelty-free tacklon brushes won't pick up product from this compact :/

    blended in, looking rather... "blah"!

Other facts to be considered:

*the cheap packaging, which I could overlook if the product inside was worth it!
*the golden sheen overpowers the peachiness. Swatches nicely on your hands, but on the cheeks it translates more golden than peach.
*after some uses, all Seventeen blushes seem to form a hard layer on the surface that you have to scratch to be able to get some product on your brush!
*it oxidizes on me :(
*"made in EU". Umm, where exactly?

So there, my love affair with Seventeen blushes ended real soon.
Sorry Seventeen, I like you as a brand but you've failed me with this product.

Unless you come up with a new updated blush formula-
then, we can talk it over again!

What you girls think of the Seventeen blushes?
Do you have any recommendations for products from this particular brand
I should consider?

  1. I am so sorry this didn't work for you! For its price it is really disappointing to work under only certain circumstances-u get mac when on sale for the same money! Nevertheless I quite like the golden sheen it gives...

  2. That's exactly how I feel about this product! "Working under certain circumstances"... To me it looks like an oxidized mess with a golden sheen on top, not nice!

  3. Hm. I am a bit torn about your review here. I do agree that these are definitely overpriced (Seriously now, 12eu for 6 grams of product, when for example Mac's Stereo Rose, a legendary product, cost around 23-25eu for 10 grams, and, well, this is Mac vs. Seventeen, you do the rest of the math here, drugstore vs. high end etc.) and that the packaging is rubbish alright.

But; I love the product. It is silky, smooth, and not buttery, but very very soft. I believe you have either got your hands on an old or a defective product. I use a Nars Yachiyo brush for this one (and for most of my blushes) which is the smoothest and lightest-touch brush out there (in my opinion - at least among the ones I have used myself) and I am very very pleased with the result and pigmentation..

Also, I appreciate Seventeen's wide range of colors (though I'd love a few matte shades as well) and I do not really consider them "outdated", some of them are pretty versatile, may I say, and can be used as MSFs due to their highlighted sheen :)

For example #43 Shining Finesse (tacky name, ok :p ) I find to be a dupe of Stereo Rose and I love both texture and result, as well as #18 Hazelnut is very natural with a bit of raspberry undertones.

On another note, awful, and I mean awful marketing and advertising this brand, have you seen the looks on their model? Yikes. Come on, what is this, the 90s?

  4. Hi girl! Ok let me first say that I enjoy reading long comments! :*

Well, this particular blush feels definitely "hard" in texture, so maybe mine was from the wrong batch or this particular shade stands apart from the rest of the Seventeen blushes.

And I couldn't agree with you more, they ought to bring out some more matte shades, as well! If I'm correct, last year they brought out some matte blushes ("in-ya-face" shades...) but I thought to be fair and test out the more common shimmery version. Now that I think of it, I should have probably asked you girls for recommendations before heading to the stores :(

Oh and lol for the promo pics! All these years I see the same face, same Photoshop techniques... Damn!

[OMG I just checked the website and there is this new gorgeous looking bronzer that wasn't there yesterday when I checked!]

  5. Seventeen didnt work for me either !!The woman at the store forced me to buy the blusher saying i would come back for more and that its very good. I used it 3 times and then gave it away. Never again !!
    Elpitha xo:)

  6. "Come back for more"?!? Now that's pushing it! Where do they get these, I wonder...

  7. their eyeliners are great, but the lipsticks are really awful.the promo pictures are a joke.
I want to share my greatest makeup discovery from a greek brand, the concealer from radiant( the professional seventeen range???)I love it , it's not crawling into my lines and I look really fresh.
I've never bought anything else from seventeen, because of the packaging and the annoying salespersons at hondos.

(to "procrastinating" me ekane na skisw to proficiency mou)

  8. The colour is pretty. But a bit expensive for a drugstore brand in my opinion.

  9. Whoaaaaaaaaaa 12Euros?? Are they kidding me?? The packaging is crap (I've depotted some of my Seventeen blushes and the packaging looks even more crappy then), the pics in their catalogues are sooo old looking and yes some of their blushes form a thin hard layer after a while, not all of them though. The un-blended swatch of this looks pretty, but the blended one naaah...

  10. The only thing a love from seventenn is the little highlitght pots...nothing else...overpriced for my taste..the packaging sucks...better to save my money for a high ended brand...The color looks good but If I have to be forced to find the right brush or the right primer for this it's a waist of time!

  11. OOOOOk, there's something mysterious going on with the Seventeen blushes..lol! I bought one of them last summer and loved it SO much! It was VERY smooth, pigmented with just the right amount of shimmer. So, 4 months ago i went and bought yet another one. But that one seemed to be a TOTALLY different product! Barely pigmented, very hard to blend and as you said after a couple of uses it formed a kind of hard layer on the surface. So you literally have to scratch it to get any product on your brush! What's up with that?! I'm sorry but i can't be risking it every time i buy a blush, hoping i'll get "lucky this time"! As for the marketing, indeed horrible! The make up on the catalogues is just awfull.

  12. i haven't noticed that thin hard layer but i am not sure if that's a problem with some of the colours. I agree with Nephele. I am a fan of shining finesse and I also have dreamy grape which I love. From seventeen I also love the matte lippies now discontinued unfortunately and also their glittery stuff. they are not that bad. But try also radiant. they have excellent blushers, and also nice concealers.

ps your blending problem could be due to the shade. I have a similar red brick/bronze shade by chanel and it's hard to blend; looks like a line on my cheeks giving an overall 80s effect.

  13. since blushers last really long, i never hesitate spending a bit more on estee lauder, nars, mac... so i've never tried a 17 one, but i like the company's nail lacquers. pretty decent, many colors!!

  15. One of my first blushes was Seventeen (a peachy-apricot shade) and I actually repurchased it back then lol I didn't know any better and for the time, I thought it was an okay product, I was using a random animal hair brush. I agree that after a while they harden a lot, which sucks. Also, I think they are overpriced! and I agree that the shades are demonde and boring and similar to each other (for me at least, I always tried to pick up a shade I like but no shade stood out to me, you know?) I won't buy a Seventeen blush again because I've found better stuff, that's for sure. :) also in general, this brand doesn't appeal to me. :/
    Good post!!

  16. This blusher doesn't satisfy me either! But i like some shadows of seventeen and its nail polish a good variety of colours....A really good blusher i have is from Avon with little balls in it!try it!

  17. I think its been ages since I bought something from Seventeen!I kinda liked their e/s when I didnt have many options but I dont really think I 'd spend again so much for one of their product...not so high end after all!And thanks for the review hun!We are in the same mood!!

  19. I've never tried a Seventeen blush and I don't think I will, I agree with you. I think Erre Due blushes are better, have you tried them?

  20. @andreana, haha!!! I'm a major procrastinator at heart- so naturally, I HAD to know the work in English! lol
Ah, so you say the Radiant concealer is good stuff? Great! Must check it out next time in Hondos ;)
    xx

@Beautyshades, you're so right, it's definitely expensive for a drugstore brand! Now that Sleek and BarryM are sold online, our greek companies should lower their prices or improve their products...

@Stavroula drugstoreandbargainlover, yeah isn't the price insane for what you get? The promo pics are a turn-off, indeed... Depotting them sounds a great idea!

@Demi, highlight pots, you say? Never heard of them! Must check them out, as well- they sound unique ;)

@dimitra, yeah you can't play russian roulette every time you're up for a blush! I'm hoping Seventeen changes their blush formula- their eyeshadows and nail polishes have been recently revamped, so there's a hope!

  21. @λειντι ντι, well it's kind of sad though that not all shades are pigmented and smooth :(
I'm on the look-out for a nice blush by Radiant? Do you have any recommendations, doll?
    xx

@stella, oh yeah, the nail laquers by Seventeen are so nice! I've yet to try their new "Supreme" line ;)

@Ria, ha ha I feel you, girl! When there's Mac and online shopping, the crap takes the sack! lol

@denise ❤, I was exactly the same- Seventeen was one of the first brands that I got introduced during my teens! Since then, some of their products have remained the same- and I don't count this as a plus... Their nail colours are nice, though!
    xx

@Reaction, oh I've seen this blush by Avon! I have a similar pot with bronze beads by the Body Shop, it's such a unique product ;)

  22. @Blushingloves Irene Greece, I know! Now we have so many options, why bother with mediocre products like this one? That's a wake-up call for Seventeen: improve your stash, please!
    xx

@makeupattitude, κι εγώ κάπως έτσι νιώθω, θέλω να στηρίζω τις ελληνικές εταιρίες. Καλά, μερικές πωλήτριες είναι εκτός τόπου και χρόνου!

@NatalieDouka, oh yes! I've tried a baked blush by Erre Due and its far more superior than this one! Now I'm looking for a Radiant blush to make a decent comparison, recommendations are alwayw welcome ;)

  23. Hmm, sorry to hear about this!!!

I must say I haven't tried anything from Seventeen apart from their nail polishes... I just can't justify their price!!! I mean I'd much rather spend that amount on a Bourjois blush, if you know what I mean!!! These greek "drugstore" brands should pay more attention to what they're offering and at what prices imo...!

  24. Yeah, I'm dissapointed in what they're offering at that price tag! Now that we have Elf, BarryM and Sleek to order online, they should really update some of their products...

    1. It's overpriced, alright! I mean, now that one is able to find blushes of decent quality for under 10E, why bother with this one? :/
